The Actors' Fund of Canada
"A career in show business seems like a dream come true for many people. The all too frequent reality is that talented professionals in music, dance, drama, and film face a precarious livelihood after years spent perfecting and practicing their craft.
Since 1958, The Actors' Fund of Canada has helped thousands of performers and other entertainment industry professionals to get back on their feet after a major setback.
When friends and colleagues in "the biz" have nowhere else to turn, the Fund can intervene at a critical moment with a rent cheque, grocery money, subsidy for prescription drugs, or other emergency financial assistance.
When illness, injury, or other calamity makes it impossible to work, entertainment industry workers are especially vulnerable. With the increasingly unpredictable nature of the business, performers, creators, craftspeople and technical and administrative personnel are more and more likely to be working without the safety net provided by substantial savings or a steady job. A small amount of money can make the difference between survival and destitution."
