Laila is an actor, director and teacher. This is her third season teaching and directing for Resurgence's Senior Youth Theatre Conservatory. Selected acting credits include Beneath the Banyan Tree (Theatre Direct Canada), which was nominated for a 2006 Dora Award for outstanding production. In schools, this production had a strong arts educational component - after each performance, students participated in a day-long drama and dance workshop. Homebound (Breadbox Theatre), Palace in the Sky (Definition Blood Pro.), The Odyssey (Banff Fine Arts Centre), Ice Cream Store and More (Carousel Players). Laila is a graduate of Sheridan College’s Music Theatre Program, University of Windsor’s B.A. Honours in Drama and a B.Ed. in Integrated Fine Arts, from the University of York. She is qualified to teach junior, intermediate and senior drama. She also studied acting, clown, movement, voice and dance with many leading instructors in the profession. In the fall of 2006, Laila will return to teach with the Toronto District School Board, tour in Edmonton with Beneath the Banyan Tree, teach student workshops for Cahoots Theatre and work as an Arts Educator with Theatre Direct Canada.
